Kendra and Glenn Croshaw

Kendra and Glenn Croshaw have committed their lives to impacting the lives of others: Kendra, before her retirement in 2006, as director of government relations and public policy for Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters; and Glenn, currently as a Circuit Court judge in Virginia Beach and formerly as a member of the House of Delegates for the Commonwealth of Virginia. The two have carried that commitment into their estate plans through a bequest to Old Dominion University for two endowments, one to create an internship in public service for graduate students and another to provide student leadership training through the Office of Student Activities and Leadership.

For Kendra ’00, this bequest is merely an extension of her deep and long time commitment to her alma mater. Her life’s work proves that she has never been one to do things the easy way. Like that of many ODU students, Kendra’s life was a juggling act — balancing a career and school. For 13 years, she took classes, worked full time at CHKD, had responsibilities at home and served on the boards of several community organizations. At CHKD, she traveled frequently to Washington D.C., and Richmond to monitor federal and state legislation and other issues that might affect CHKD and the wider health industry.

From 1999 to 2006, the government relations team succeeded in securing more than $15 million in state and federal funding for CHKD’s graduate medical education program, the neonatal intensive care unit, the child abuse program and capital projects. Meanwhile, Kendra also found time to serve two terms on Old Dominion’s Board of Visitors, which included two years as vice rector. During her service on the Board of Visitors, the football program was approved by unanimous vote. After her retirement from CHKD in 2006, true to form, Kendra continued her juggling act. She went back to school, this time to study interior design, while continuing her various volunteer activities.

“I had the pleasure to serve with Kendra on the ODU board of visitors for several years,” said Marc Jacobson, former rector of ODU’s Board of Visitors. “As a member, Kendra always provided well-reasoned thoughts and opinions in a calm and professional manner and, indeed, was a highly respected member of the board.” He went on to say that the Croshaw gift will change the lives of future students. “Both Kendra and Glenn are individuals who have made and continue to make meaningful contributions not only to ODU but our entire community, for which we are all extremely grateful and appreciative.”
